Along with my colleague, Heidi Herr, I planned and organized a student-curated exhibit and reception. My colleague, Shannon Simpson promoted the event to student groups on campus. This event was planned in partnership with the Black Student Union to bring more visibility to and promote our African American materials in Special Collections. The theme of the exhibit was Hidden Histories: the African American Collections at Johns Hopkins University. It was held on February 21, 2014 as part of the Black History Month activities on campus. Four undergraduate students volunteered to work on curating displays related to four different aspects of African American history. More than 60 visitors attended both the exhibit and the reception. Check out the photos! It was a huge success!
